From volcanoes to bubbling hot springs and everything in-between, the natural beauty of Iceland is truly a sight to behold. This 9-day trip captures the iconic highlights of Iceland and more while staying comfortable in upgraded hotels along the way. After the must-sees like an iceberg-filled lagoon and the Golden Circle, delve even further afield with a farm-to-table lunch in rural Iceland on the way to the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula that will transport you into a fantasy world with its glaciers, lava fields and waterfalls.
Day 1 Reykjavik
Arrive at any time.
Day 2 Reykjavik/Skaftafell
Head south along the coast driving past volcanoes and lava fields, stopping at Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi waterfalls. Later, stop in Hveragerði where we will have the opportunity to taste bread baked in one of the local hot springs. We'll then visit the Lava Center in Hvolsvöllur to learn about volcanoes before arriving to Skaftafell for the night.
Day 3 Skaftafell
Drive to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon to see the floating icebergs and the adjacent black sand Diamond Beach, often scattered with chunks of ice that have drifted in. Continue to Vatnajökull National Park for a hike to Svartifoss waterfall and stop at farm in Öræfi to see one of Iceland’s historic turf churches.
Day 4 Skaftafell/Vik
Today step onto the massive Vatnajökull Ice Cap in Skaftafell National Park with a hike on a glacier to see the incredible ice formations up close. In the afternoon stop at Reynisfjara beach for a stroll on the black sand beach before arriving to Vik for the night.
Day 5 Vik/Golden Circle/Selfoss
Start the day with a visit to the Skógar Folk Museum before getting to the powerful Skógafoss waterfall, one of the biggest in Iceland with a viewing platform for incredible photo opportunities. Continue on to the Golden Circle route, stopping at Gulfoss waterfall and then Geysir to see the water spew high up nto the air. Overnight in nearby Selfoss.
Day 6 Selfoss/Snæfellsnes
Set out in the morning for a walk in Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where two of earth’s tectonic plates meet. Then visit a farm to learn about Icelandic traditional farming practices before tucking into a farm-to-table lunch. In the afternoon continue to western Island and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
Day 7 Snæfellsnes
Enjoy a full day of exploration in the incredible landscapes of the area. Head to Snæfellsjökull National Park to see a glacier-capped volcano, the basalt cliffs at Lóndrangar and the black pebble beach at Djúpalónssandur. Visit a church in the middle of a lava field in Búðir and check out Kirkjufell Mountain, featured in Game of Thrones.
Day 8 Snæfellsnes/Reykjavik
Head south this morning to the scenic fjord of Borgarfjörður where we’ll stop to see 2 different waterfalls before visiting the small village of Reykholt. Continue to the Deildartunguhver hot spring which is the highest flowing hot spring in Europe and is used to heat parts of western Iceland. Arrive back to Reykjavik in the afternoon for a final night on the town.
Day 9 Reykjavik
Depart at any time.
